Is the pipe under any other stresses from hangers etc?

Don't know but part of it is when does the FP come on? Is it around say 140
or 25. That might make a difference. I wouldn't think a 25 psi jump would
be an issue. I'm sure there is a difference in longitudinal cracking vs.
transverse and the cause. If the system is "bouncing" I'd think you'd see
more sheering or transverse. But I'm just brainstorming with my gut here I
don't know.

Subject: water hammer and CPVC

I was at a location yesterday where they have had a problem of splits
in CPVC pipe in a basement. The fire pump churn is roughly 175 psi
but the jockey pump is set at 150 psi. Would repeated water hammer
from weekly/quarterly/annual tests create enough fatigue to cause failure?
