Tom, Typically that's how its taught, connect to the hose valve on the floor below the fire, stretch the line up the stairwell to the floor above the fire and back down to the fire floor with the nozzle ending up at the fire floor stairway door. The idea being to avoid clutter on the fire floor and let gravity do some of the work feeding the hose line from above rather than having to pull it up from below. That doesn't mean its done that way everywhere, but what I've described is the norm.
So does stretching the line one flight above the fire floor and two floors above the connected hose valve effect anything ? On a combination system, we take the hose demand at the fdv on the riser for the floor we're calculating but I used to have a couple of firefighters who worked part time for me. They always told me they connected a floor or two below (or above) to keep a separation before entering the fire floor. I often wondered why we didn't calc. it that way. Tom Right- but you'd take the 150 off at the nearest hydrant to pump suction. And you could leave the 100 inside off there, too, if there aren't inside hose connections. _______________________________________________ Sprinklerforum mailing list [email protected] http://fireball.firesprinkler.org/mailman/listinfo/sprinklerforum For Technical Assistance, send an email to: [email protected] To Unsubscribe, send an email to:[email protected] (Put the word unsubscribe in the subject field) CONFIDENTIAL AND PROPRIETARY: This email message is intended only for the use of the individual or entity to which it is addressed and may contain information that is privileged and confidential, nor is it, unless specifically stated, intended to be relied upon by any person or persons other than the individual or entity named above and no warranties or representations are made or intended to persons or entities not named above.
