I'd assume there are core requirements in the FPE curriculum that expose the student to the basics of sprinklers, but they are free to concentrate on research, smoke evac, modeling, and stuff I probably never considered.
For the real answer, beyond what Scot said, might want to look at the WPI and U MD FPE websites for course requirements. Assuming you're in a p match with a specific individual, might check out his/her alma mater's site. PA doesn't have a specific FPE registration, FWIW.
