My guess would be 2009 IBC 903.4.2. You'll note the requirement for
activation on waterflow EQUIVALENT TO the flow of a single sprinkler. It
doesn't say where this flow originates so I would assume it could be between
the pump and the risers. I don't think the pump run signal is the same
because this should be a supervisory condition and may not indicate any flow
at all. This may be your AHJ's hook on which his/her opinion hangs.

Subject: RE: Main Flow Switch

AHJ Requesting "Main Flow Switch" between fire pump and risers.

In word searching NFPA 13, 20, 101 and 72 (2007)I can find no definition of
a "Main Flow Switch" nor any requirement for one. The pump run signal will
provide the same alarm as the "Main Flow" but the AHJ says it's in the code.
Where? He says find it!

Any help out there??

Thom
