I am asking this questions to learn from the collective knowledge and experience of the Forum
We are in the very initial stages of building a house and when I was talking with the builders rep in their model home I asked if they install sprinklers in any of the homes they build. His first reply is that they are "very expensive" in a tone that implied they were more of a bother to him than anything else. Washington State has not required sprinklers, yet, but I know in some parts of the Seattle area residential sprinklers are required. Based upon your experience and opinions, what are the pros and cons of a standard residential system with its own dedicated pipe vs. a combined system that ties into the rest of the water supply piping for the house. I am not sure what my options are for contractors in this area for residential systems. I work for a large engineering company on a large industrial complex and I am not tied into the local contractors that well. I see the potential to cultivate a new market in this area if we can get builders to look at sprinkler systems as a selling point, like security systems, home entertainment systems, and upscale kitchens. But to do that we need to educate them and offer them good options. If any of you want to talk off forum I would welcome that as well.
