If this is an FM Global insured property, the owner or engineer of record should have submitted this project to them for review. See if it has been reviewed by FM Global and if there has been a review letter issued. That might give you some guidance for design.
First you need to ask for Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) which will define the miscibility of the materials. These sheets will also provide recommended fire suppression data, although you cannot always apply what they may indicate since most of the time they are referring to manual fire fighting measures. Certain materials of certain quantities are not to be stored within a building and must be stored in a separate structure away from the main occupied building. This here in the States is dictated within the Building Code. An architect should have known of these materials and should have designed a building with suitable rooms which would meet code and FM Global requirements. If this has not been the case then there are other problems beyond trying to configure a sprinkler protection plan. So after determining the miscibility issue, you should ask the architect how his location of a storage room within the building meets code. He may need to revise his design. Craig L.
