Fire Protection System Inspection FM 2-81 (January 2008), Page 32 contains a
specific requirement.
Joint Commission also had a requirement. I concur with the Top as well, if
there is evidence of past freeze ups, evidence of sprinkler service work
performed by others, work in the area by other trades (e.g. HVAC install or
replacement), or evidence of mechanical impact damage (e.g. parking garages)
then recommendation to the client to check pitch should be made.

Thanks, Top. You are quite right that pitch is something that goes to the
original installation. I was pretty sure it was not in 25 after looking
thru the current and 08 editions.
I did hear off-forum that there was such a line item in an old inspection
form used by some contractors. That is apparently where I got the notion
of
such a requirement.

There is no requirement to check pitch in NFPA-25. It is assumed that
system was properly installed. I would suggest if you feel there has been
building settlement or some other reason you feel there may be a problem
it
makes sense to check but this would be outside scope of 25 inspection and
should be qualified as such.

systems must be periodically checked, like at a 5 year or 10 year
interval.
