If it's a freezer box in a building the Viking K14 ESFR's are the best bet,
especially if the roof deck is combustible because only one compliment of pipe
is needed. The only issue with the Viking head is the flat plate is designed to
fit against a flat surface and every freeze we have seen there are ribs in
steel sheeting every 4-6". We have had to foam the hole around the pipe and add
insulation to drop above the freezer because of ice forming on the drop. If
it's a freezer building with the insulation on the roof Quell is probably the
only game in town. It is designed for Class II and is usually adequate for
frozen food. Victaulic keeps trying to say that their head will work in a
freezer but the problem is doing the water delivery time calculations. Tyco
says their calc program is UL Listed only with their K17 Ultra so I guess
technically the program isn't valid for another sprinkler. Victaulic has told
me that FM will do the calc's if it is an FM insured property. I have inquired
to FM about doing the delivery calc's and got "HUH?" in reply.

I have heard that Viking is coming out with a K25 ESFR dry pendent.

Those are the only ones I've ever seen, Viking does also make a 2' long dry
pendent K14, I'm not sure how I feel about that option, and I don't know if it
would be feasible for what you're looking at, that's the only other "cold" ESFR
I know of. There are some CMSA dry/preaction options out there, Victualic has
a couple and they will cover in some circumstances plastics etc depending on
storage heights etc.

Thanks Mike - I have not seen that one.

Are there any out there for commodity hazards greater than class 2?

Tyco has the Quell system also but I don't believe those are ESFR, I think
they're considered CMSA K17s

Does anyone know of an antifreeze or ESFR sprinkler that meets the conditions
of NFPA 13-2007 7.6.1.2 (specifically listed to be used as an antifreeze esfr
system)?
