This has been an ambiguous issue for many cycles. It was explicitly addressed at the recent ROP meeting for NFPA 25 where it was accepted that the main drain test (to be called a water supply test) is to test the condition of the lead-in and only needed to be tested a single time (not once for every system on the manifold whether horizontal or vertical supplied by the lead-in) See ROP 25-3. Needless to say, this can change at the ROC or the floor vote at the convention.

When you have a building with multiple floor control valves I have the
following question:

If the intent of the main drain test is to test the supply, can you
accomplish that by flowing the largest or the furtherest from the riser
instead of flowing each one individually?

Thanks,
