I would say that so long as the supply is reliable per chapter 6 of 13D and acceptable to the AHJ it would be ok. But, I think that there are concerns that would need to be addressed as well. Such as, is the supply clean and free from debris? How will debris be kept out of the sprinkler system?
As far as the water supply numbers, they may not be all that important if you don't loop or grid the system. 13D allows for a static pressure only calculation (see 8.4.4, 2007 ed.). Can a 13D system be connected to the irrigation supply in lieu of the traditional U.G. arrangement of connecting at the domestic water meter ? I have an unsprinkled house that I am being asked to sprinkle in the same manner as the other sprinkled houses in the subdivision; these houses are not connected to the U.G. at the water meter but are rather connected to a curb stop that is reserved for irrigation water. The irrigation main does not tie-back into the city water main so I have no way to gauge the water supply by flowing and testing a hydrant. (These are single family residence houses, not townhomes....) Is this even allowed ? I cannot find anything alluding to this and the AHJ has never heard of anyone doing this before. I think the rationale behind doing this was that it did not conflict with the potable water supply and was considered to be "free" water. Can anyone shed any light on this and if so, what are the requirements and where can they be found in 13D ?
