BFD wants us to show them. Kinda been down this road before. I did some FP work about 10 years ago on these three Avalon 28 sty. high-rises next to the Pru. They requested a FP and Standpipe test be performed to close out the permit (they use this opportunity all the time to get these tests done which is good). We initially got ~350 @ 30 from the top PRFDV (same kind) from the pump. Standpipes were 6" to about the 14th flr. and 4" after. I submitted the report but they wouldn't accept it unless I could prove the system passed or not. I had to do a lot of digging back then (I think they were 1972) to find out MA had no adopted edition of #14. Our chapter 10 at the time just had pipe size guidance and no mention of style of FDV, even below the 175 break floor which was the 3rd I think. With this information, I resubmitted but included what would have been the current #14 edition (at their request). We did a second witnessed report but I changed out the 2 PRFDV's at the top of each riser because they leaked (prob. the 2nd time t hey were ever opened). They accepted the test report. This place had roof tanks too but decommissioned years ago. We talked about the presence of PRV's, wondering what the existing could have been set for (if at all) and they decided that this would be the next guys problem. I had changed the ones at the tops before I tested them. Off to the BPL again.. TD
Thom wrote; I'm wondering how to approach the AHJ in requesting I remove and replace them with standard FDV's off the shelf. Thom If there not needed provide the AHJ with a copy of the Meridian Plaza Fire Report. John Drucker - Mobile Email Those are mechanical restrictors that only operate on residual pressure. If system pressure doesn't exceed 175 psi, the prescriptive code says you don't need them, but it's a good idea to check with the responding fire dept. just to be sure they're okay with regular valves and the existing system pressures. My opinion only, etc. Steve L. _______________________________________________ Sprinklerforum mailing list [email protected] http://lists.firesprinkler.org/listinfo.cgi/sprinklerforum-firesprinkler.org
