Granted some of us have worked in areas of no/minimal seismic risk.

They want them on there because it's a checkbox.

Most of my work in Florida never needed seismic and the few places that wanted 
it either didn't require calc's. Assuming, now we know what happens when you 
ass-u-me, that the minimum is sufficient.

Granted when I started to work on projects more in the north and out west, as 
well as government work, I learned the importance of it.
