Perhaps I should have been clearer on the application. This is a OH II warehouse with bar joist construction and the lights suspended down from the deck at an elevation beneath the sprinkler deflectors. I thought that I could either apply the exception 8.6.5.2.1.4 or stay at least 24in away from the lights with my sprinklers and be code compliant. Have I been wrong all these years?

The problem I am having is the he is telling me that the suspended lights must comply with the table 8.6.5.1.2 (beam rule) because it is part of 8.6.5.1 even though the edge of the lights are at least 24in away from the sprinkler. The beam rule would require them to be at least 3ft away to comply. Any good idea how to respond to this?
