Any corrosive exposure? I just looked at a building where hydrochloric acid
vapors melted out a link.

I asked the same questions, answer given to us is no. I have also queried if
any re-roofing had occurred on the very unlikely scenario the heat may have
transferred below.

I know I'm asking the obvious...but was this area subject to
higher-than-expected ambient temperatures? Or temperature spikes from some
special cause (paint stripping with heat gun etc.)?

Subject: Sprinkler Fusible Link Failure

I have recently had an issue with two CSC type A '1983' sprinklers accidently
activating. On inspection of the others following a drain down we found
several others without the link in place. We can only assume that this
happened once the pressure was removed.

Has anyone experience of this happening and reasons why? We can rule out heat,
pressure surges and works in the areas. The two heads that activated were in
different areas of the system.

Best Regards,

Spencer Allen
