You have identified an issue that took more time in the Hanging and
Bracing committee meetings that you can imagine. The argument over
"shared support structures", now in 9.1.1.3, as being in conflict with
9.2.1.3.1 was like a professional wrestling match, only not quite as
subtle. 9.1.1.3.2 requires the 5X + 250, while 9.2.1.3.1 does not.
I suppose it depends on who's doing the evaluation. I don't
disagree with a word of what Steve Leyton said, however.

the past 10 or so that they are NOT adequate by conventional engineering
standards and the 5x WP + 250# equation. For example, TrusJoist has block
details showing 4x4 members for piping up to 3 or 4" but that's only for
