Thanks for pointing me to the Drafts.

I'm trying to get away from having to install the valve, but the reviewer
wants it to match the picture.

1) There is no 2015 edition of NFPA 14. The 2016 has been final-drafter,
and I don't believe there were any NITMAM's so adoption is imminent if I'm
not mistaken.

2) Jerry - as for viewing the changes, you can see the First Draft and
Second Draft reports on line at nfpa.org. Section 7.3.2 Locations of Hose
Connections has been overhauled. The committee used its Imperial powers to
combine four PI's into a single revision of that chapter, including some
committee comments and, in the 2nd Draft cycle, the work product of a task
group on 2-hour separations. It will be twice as long and much more
specific.

3) To the issue of the valve that is shown in Fig. A.7.3.2(5), it's my
personal opinion that the valve is not required (nor desirable) in an
environment that is NOT subject to freezing.

Just sayin ...

The foregoing is my opinion only and does not necessarily represent the
opinion or intent of the NFPA 14 Technical Committee on Standpipe and Hose
Systems.

Norman,

Is there any where I can view these changes?

2015 code removes this requirement.

According to the NFPA 14-A.7.3.2(5) (13Ed.) There is gate valve installed
isolating the hose valve on the roof. Is there verbiage about this
isolation valve? Is the valve required if you're not in areas subject to
freezing?
