Subject: Minimum duct size for sprinklers

I am working with a facility that makes envelopes and other office paper
products. They have an exhaust duct system which feeds twin collectors outside.
The collectors have built in sprinklers and 1" outlets to connect to. The owner
wants to connect to the sprinklers in the collector, but a contractor told them
they should sprinkler all of the ductwork as well. The largest feed ducts are
16" round, decrease down to 11" round and connect to the machines with smaller
duct (all round). My question is what is the minimum size duct you should
install a sprinkler in? NFPA 654 had no guidance.
