What is the reasoning for the 4” minimum space to a wall or duct? It isn’t activation or spray pattern since sidewall sprinklers operate in a recessed escutcheon.

For standard spray sprinklers: 4" from the duct unless a sidewall (you could use a vertical type) and no closer the 6' from the next closest sprinkler. The rules are pretty clear. Unless you can find a sprinkler who's listing negates these rules you're stuck.
