As mentioned the cost savings from deviations from the datasheet criteria is often offset by an increase in the insurance premiums (so there is little incentive to allow a deviation after the price has been agreed đ).
I have not had much success with getting deviations to the non-flat obstruction criteria. I suppose itâs better they were spending the money on sprinklers than additional insurance premiums but it can be a shock to the system when working with clients from previous projects from before this criteria came in. (further complicated by the âGrouped Obstructionâ criteria) Maybe different in different areas and depending on who the FM rep is. My experience with FM has primarily been in the EU. Underwriters are underwriters, their enforcement power is limited to increasing policy costs, or revoking policies for non-compliance. Donât make the contractor do your work or have to guess. This is an issue that gets overlooked a lot by engineers and not just FP engineers.
