Guys:
I have been pouring over 13 all afternoon and I can't find the requirement for
the scenario I am dealing with, so I humbly ask for your help.
Hazard: Diesel Engine Mfg plant - Loading dock
area
- 30' Deck, 20' Mics Rack Storage, Grp A Plastic containers with metal
parts.
Existing System(s) 8"x2.5"X8" Grid
K 8.0 Uprights
.60 GPM/4,000 sq. ft.
The insurance carrier has done a loss prevention survey and their written
report says they will accept the omission of in rack sprinklers if the overhead
system will support K-16.8 heads and a design density of
.80 GPM/2,000 sq. ft. under section 17.2.1.2.1 (e) (which it will with a large
safety factor)
My question is this: What restrictions do I have with the overhead
sprinklers and mixing the sprinkler K factors?
Do all of the heads on the system need to be changed to K16.8 or just the ones
within 40' of the racks?
If I can mix K factors, do I
need a 2' draft curtain in between like I would if it were ESFR?
Thanks,
John Paulsen - SET
