Would there be a cost savings to add a ceiling vs in-racks and the potential damage incurred from fork lifts hitting the in-rack sprinkler/piping?

I've always been taught that ESFR is 8' minimum. You are not permitted to use baffles or anything to reduce the minimum distance between ESFR sprinklers.
