We have a project that is a Mini Self Storage and on one of the floors they have what is called a sky locker. It sits on top of one of the lower lockers and obstructs the spray pattern from the roof system. These lockers are 5'-0" deep and range from 5'-0" to 10'-0" wide, none of the lockers have ceilings on them, chicken wire only. Most of the lower lockers are larger then the sky lockers so it looks like a small box sitting on a bigger box.
The question I am asking is do we include the sprinkler heads under the sky locking in our calculation or is it treated as an obstruction as notes in NFPA #13 (2013) section 23.4.4.6.3.1 and you just pipe size it the same as the roof system but don't have to include in the calculation. Or is there something else I have not seen? Thank You James Crawford Phaser Fire Protection Ltd.
