Even though the standard does not require it, as another old fire guy, I prefer that the sprinkler be located towards the closet door and not above the top shelf. Seen blankets on the top shelf bury the sprinkler such that a fire in the closet never activated the sprinkler due to the warm, soft insulation of the blankets. Nobody got hurt, but the fire grew bigger than it needed to.
