NFPA 20 Table 4.27a - In the suction side of the chart there are a few
notes for the suction pipe, note b states that the minimum suction size is
only for the portion of piping specified in 4.15.3.3.
They want the the water flow into the pump to not exceed 15ft/s, the rest
of the feed line can be smaller as long as it's capable of providing the
required flow at a positive pressure.
