In addition to what Kevin posted, I can’t say if it directly effected the
reversion, but around the same time the IBC revision cycle(for IBC2015) was
progressing where they added in the specific exemption for bathrooms for group
R occupancies without limiting it to hotels/motels. In areas where the IBC was
used as the building code this would have allowed the installer to bypass the
limitation in NFPA-13 anyways, so it was for the best that the language in both
books was kept correlated.

Subject: [Sprinklerforum] Sprinklers in Bathrooms 8.15.8.1.1

The NFPA 13 omission of sprinklers in bathrooms was changed from 2010 to 2013,
and then changed back from 2013 to 2016. The wording of 8.15.8.1.1 is exactly
the same in 2010 and 2016. But in 2013 it specified only dwelling units in
hotels and motels. Could anyone help me understand why that was done? Seems
like an odd change to make to then revert right back.
