FM DATA SHEET ACCESS

FM Global, (Factory Mutual Insurance Co) recently announced that a new web-based application is available that permits external downloading of the Property Loss Prevention Data Sheets, free of charge at www.fmglobaldatasheets.com . The new self-service feature allows anyone with internet access to register on the site and download the data sheets. The application ensures only current information is available and creates an easier/ affordable way for architects, consultants and contractors to meet the clients' requests to build to FM Global standards. FM Global will no longer produce the data sheets on CD or in hard copy. The data sheets will be available exclusively through a self-service download with registration.

CORROSION RESISTANCE RATIO

The project specifications may be requiring pipe to have certain corrosion resistance ratio (CRR) such as 1.00. The CRR is a UL term and what does it mean? This is a method of comparing the thickness of the pipe at the first pipe thread when it is threaded to ANSI B1.20.1 to that of the first thread on a Schedule 40 pipe. So if you have a CRR of 1.00, it has the same corrosion resistance of Schedule 40 pipe. If the number is 0.74, the wall thickness is thinner and may have a shorter corrosion resistance span. If a CRR is required, the information should be provided on the manufacturer's data sheet on the pipe product. Otherwise, the manufacturer should be contacted for that documentation so it can be provided with the submittal package. When the pipe is not threaded and will be roll grooved, the thinnest wall section is used.
