It is strapped directly to the bottom of the composite wood joist with a listed CPVC hanger." In response to your question we have reviewed NFPA 13, 2013 edition as the applicable standard. Our informal interpretation is that longitudinal bracing is required. A strap does not grip the pipe tight enjoy to stop longitudinal movement which CPVC is not able to withstand (that's why there are no typical longitudinal braces for it). The manufacturer's literature for the strap states, "Size 3/4" - 2" provides listed vertical/lateral restraint and prevents upward movement of pipe that supplies a pendent sprinkler below a ceiling." As such, this cannot be used for longitudinal bracing unless you meet the exception in NFPA 13. The base requirement in Section 9.3.5.6.1 is that longitudinal sway bracing spaced at a maximum of 80 ft on center shall be provided for feed and cross mains. Section 9.3.5.5.8 for lateral sway bracing indicates that lateral braces shall be allowed to act as longitudinal braces if they are within 24 inches of the centerline of the piping braced longitudinally and the lateral brace is on a pipe of equal or greater size than the pipe being braced longitudinally. Thus placing a tee with a nipple with a cap and strapped in place per Section 9.3.5.5.8 will prevent excess movement of the cross and feed mains.
