Hi,
That doesn't seem to be the issue:

anatoliy@ubuntu:/usr/local/bin$ sudo chmod -R a+rwx ~/.spyder2
[sudo] password for anatoliy:
anatoliy@ubuntu:/usr/local/bin$ spyder
So you have to sudo to change files in your own home directory?
Did you install spyder as the root user?
Did you run it as root user?
How did you install spyder; pip, source, other?
Does whereis spyder show more than one location?
At this point the terminal becomes unresponsive, and I have to kill the
process.
Anything in the system log?
