Hi all,

On the behalf of Spyder's development team, I'm pleased to announce the first and only release candidate of our upcoming 2.2 version.

We fixed a lot of bugs since Beta 4, the most important ones being: a bug that prevented Spyder to reload files automatically if they were edited externally, simplify the way Spyder errors can be debugged (by defining the SPYDER_DEBUG environment variable to True), make our Mac App to open external files (i.e from Finder), make auto-insertion of quotes and colons to work much more reliably and finally, update breakpoints on a running Pdb session when they are added or removed from the Editor.

This version should be very close to the stable release. So our top priority is to (eventually) find and (surely) fix all remaining bugs!

We've been working on Spyder 2.2 for almost a year and as far as we know is very stable. There are still some minor bugs to squash but we encourage all people who like the bleeding edge to give it a try. It comes with several improvements, the most important ones being: IPython integration with its new qtconsole, a new debugger toolbar, breakpoints widget and a MacOs X application.

See the incomplete changelog here:

And don't forget to follow Spyder updates/news on the project website (http://code.google.com/p/spyderlib/) and on our official blog (http://spyder-ide.blogspot.com/). In the next couple of weeks I'll be writing a series of blogs describing in more detail our new changes

Enjoy!
Carlos
