Thanks for sharing

*I know all this are personal opinions but I ask for you to look at Spyder
through the eyes of a new user, not a developer,*
*not a hacker, not an old time user.*

*@Ronan:* do you think that you can break your lines manually when they
reach here? it makes it easier to read directly in the email. Also on
laptops
and small screens reading full lines of text is very uncomfortable, it
feels
like trolling ;-). In my first porst with all those bullets I did it wrong,
sorry for that!

To the issues raised

*Object Inspector*
It can become a help center, but it cannot be a replacement for something
like the linuxshortcut screen you get by pressing windows key... it is a
simple big but pleasing summary.

In the object inspector (OI) you would need to scroll down and look for it,
they OI should remain small and occupying 1/4 of screen size

And yes I agree with Ronan, it used to be super fast and now is not by
default connected and is very slow, was this slowness the actual reason
for disabling the direct connection to the editor in the first place?
Can we make it fast again?

*Fixed shortcuts*I also feel uneasy about this

*Ribbon / Toolbars*
Yes a ribbon is way bigger but if you double click on it, it disappears,
anyway....

I say we could make the toolbars smaller like R studio, they are tiny and
non
intrusive. In the meantime we can hide global and debug as default :), to
make
a smooth transition.

*Start Page*
Yes the idea is to have it only for first time runs and first time runs
after an
update. If you just started spyder, we can welcome the new user and give
some advice from the start, and give the option to select a look, if you
are
an old time user you can get the default look that is loaded, or you can
start
simple and clean, editor and console.

When starting with a new version we can raise the attention of the user to
new
features. Think of canopy start screen, ignoring the package manager and
that

Random thought: we could even allow for log in capabilities, where you
could
have your defaults stored online and synced... (ala firefox...)

*Overall comments*
I am not sure what most people use Spyder like that is why I try to imagine
as a beginner (we all were beginners at some point).

I guess Carlos (and some other people with Spyder for a long time) has a
better
feel on use case but still..., can we start collecting information on what
people
click and process this info to see how people actually use spyder?
Would this be to intrusive for the privacy concerned?

If most people do not use a feature maybe it should be gracefully
removed...
like menu dockwidgets? I never use those!

I read somewhere something about Marissa Mayer
<http://www.fastcodesign.com/3041374/3-rules-of-app-design-according-to-yahoos-marissa-mayer>,

and I like the two tap (click)
rule, User needs of most users should be handled in less than 2 clicks ;),
with
thi in mind, the Spyder tutorial fails... the index has to many subindices
before
you actually see some content

Cheers :)
