There's already some work to provide this functionality in
https://github.com/spyder-ide/spyder/pull/2964
We plan to finish it and ship it with Spyder 4, to be released during
the summer of next year.

When marking a variable SPYDER already highlights all occurances in

So to me it seems that including an option that replaces all
highlights by a given string must be possible.
Ideally:
1) marking a variable
2) right mouse
3) "change variable name in document/project"
4) textbox input
5) done
this works incredibly fast and efficient in PyCharm
