I really haven't looked at the souce code, and some of the complaints are completely
bogus.  There is nothing wrong with a roll your own template system, especially if
you want it to be a stand alone product.  And frankly, most of the templating 
systems in Perl suck anyway.

The non use of strict and the global variables are a more pressing problem.
Instead of globals, correct object orientated modules should be implemented.

I teach this all the time in my Perl Classes.  If you want, I'd be willing to
lead a rewrite of the necessary segments and implement a proper class structure.

I don't want to step on anyones toes, but I'd be willing to take on this
responsibility.
