I insert data into tables and then use ident_current without using the
NOCOUNT option and all works fine. I don't think that NOCOUNT is required
when doing multiple queries.

Don't know Bryan - give it a try and see what happens.

All I know is that the nocount turns off the message back from the sqlserver
so you can have both the insert statement and the ident_current statement in
the same cfquery.

I don't have time to try the looping insert now .. how about you let us know
what happens when you try it.

You sure Mike??

try running this kind of cfquery in MS SQL

<cfquery.....>
  <cfloop from=1 to="5" index="i">
    INSERT INTO blah;
  </cfloop>
</cfquery>

That's 5 SQL operations in 1 CFQUERY...and it will run...or am I
misunderstanding you?
