Carl,
That would be nice but I am not aware of one.
Personally I use Boa to develop, it has a GUI designer built in you can
use to generate the dialogs/frames etc and I then use validators to load
data to/from the controls.
I've had a quick look at Boa, it seems to be a bit dead as a project
though? The last update was some years ago. Is that just my poor
googling skills?
I would not call it dead, but updates are very very sporadic. Riaan
(the author) just doesn't seem to have a lot of time and so updates are
not as often as most of us users would like. But on the other hand I
have been using it for a few years now and am pretty happy with it.
The biggest hang up I probably have with it that new widgets are not
that easy to integrate and so I end up coding things like UI's which
depend on the wx.lib.agw.aui stuff by hand instead of using the designer.
You should probably also look at some of the tools out there, e.g.
- wxPythonPit lists a lot - http://wiki.wxpython.org/wxPythonPit%20Apps
- WindIde - http://www.wingware.com/
- Ulipad - http://code.google.com/p/ulipad/
- Editra - http://editra.org/
And go with the one you feel most at ease with.
Dabo (http://www.dabodev.com/) might also be an alternative you want to
look at, also it has is own db access stuff - I asked in the past if
they don't want to switch to SA but there doesn't seem to be any
interest in doing this.
I think software written in Dabo would be too 'locked in to Dabo' by
the look of it.
You are probably right here, but it depends on your project if this is
really an big draw back.
I like the idea of SQLAlchemy, it's a very compelling toolkit.
Totally agree and the support and documentation for it are just amazing!
