Thanks for that, and the analysis that preceded it. That was my guess, especially point 1, the most significant thing. It's tough to find a decent extension for SQLite that enough people want. The two extensions I see most referred to are FTS3 (to provide the full-text search) and rtrees (to define distance in terms of two coordinates).
