I haven't actually removed the card: just switched the player to being
connected by wired ethernet.  But when I change the now playing in the
web gui, the progress bar does change, only the vu meter/spectrum
analyser doesn't.  That stays jammed even when I switch the player to
standby.

Which suggests to me a problem in the xilinx or the firmware code
actually processing the audio, rather than anything server or comms
related.
