Well i would say - a small powered (and also small power consumption) device always runs better on a small OS. A dedicated System always respond faster than a "desktop" System cause all the RAM & CPU are for OS & LMS.
My Server is that old it only allows me Windows XP (forget that asap) or a Linux - Windows 7/8/10 would not run on it. Under tux it runs quite fine. If you want to run a headless system the os must not have some graphical gimmics and these gimmicks need power. If you add more ram to some computer to run a "big" OS like *blows you need more power out of the Wall. That fact most people always forget.
