Given my problem was created by incorrectly setting a debug option, are there things in the Prefs folder that shouldn't be restored?
In your particular case it was the log.conf which caused problems. That file you would probably never need to backup/restore. It's usefulness is very limited.
The use case would be a clean install of LMS 7.9, no database or cache folder; do I just restore the Prefs folder and then start LMS?
No, not the full folder. As I said the log.conf was all you needed to remove.
