How old are the powerline adapters ? I use them in various places around the house and have found that after a period of time some have stopped working correctly displaying intermittent issues such as you describe. When this has happened I have replaced with newer models from the same manufacturer (Devolo) so that the remaining older ones still work. I had a particular problem with a powerline WAP recently.
