I actually implemented this as a standalone Python-script that periodically polls the current playing track/stream for all players and if two players are playing the same media, without already being synchronized, it will set them to synchronized. It works well, but I hoped there would be something similar already existing as a plugin (unfortunately I don't know Perl very well).
