I guess this indeed is related to an earlier firmware update or so, I cannot think of anything else. I went into the LMS Settings to check the media folder selection. I had never touched it, but I thought let me just reselect the music folder. The tree structure now started at the '/shared' level. I don't see the Volume1/ anymore. Reselecting '/share/Qmultimedia/iTunes Music' it solved the issue though.
