I've successfully run four devices synced over WiFi. The biggest issue is going to be bandwidth and CPU power, so this will depend on your chosen source. If it's 320kb MP3 and all the players can play it natively (which is the case for Pi's) then you probably won't have any problems.
I wouldn't expect them to be in perfect audio sync though.
