Well, I used to run LMS on SSOTS on my admittedly now very old QNAP NAS, and found applying LMS updates a hassle, not to mention dealing with the consequences of QNAP firmware updates.
For the last couple of years I've used a Raspberry Pi 3 running piCorePlayer and LMS, with the music files on the NAS. It's really easy to update LMS on the Pi, and to set up Spotty. It's definitely an option worth thinking about!
