Hey folks...
So I ended up buying a Zotac. I like it, but yeah, it DOES get pretty hot - runs 60 degrees when idle! I'm currently running Kubuntu on it, and it's hosting my music collection pretty well. I decided, however, to eventually build my own fanless PC, probably based on an mATX board (or micro ITX); not sure which. I'm currently talking to the guy who runs this company: http://atechfabrication.com/ ... to see what we can come up with. There are much cheaper options out there (Akasa, Streacom, etc.) but I like what this guy does (and it's nice to have something built in the US). I was thinking of waiting until the 9th generation Intel chips and chipsets come out, supposedly in October. The guy at A-Tech, above, thinks it's not worth waiting for, and that it'll be next year before a good selection of motherboards for that generation comes out. I wanted to wait because those will have more of all the latest standards (HDMI 2.0, DisplayPort 1.4, USB 3.1 Gen 2, Thunderbolt, etc; I'd like all of that on a board, if possible). This will be an all-in-one media server/player. Anyway, until I build this new system, I'll use the Zotac. I already upgraded my receiver; I have very little space, so I got a slimline receiver: http://www.us.marantz.com/us/products/pages/ProductDetails.aspx?CatId=avreceivers&ProductId=NR1509 I was also looking at this: http://www.integrahometheater.com/Products/model.php?m=DSX-3&class=Receiver&source=prodClass ... which I liked because it had a few more bells and whistles, and also has built-in Chromecast, which is kinda neat. Not sure if I would have been happier with it or not - my old receiver was also an Integra, and it had a pretty loud fan in it; the Marantz doesn't seem to have a fan. - Tim Integra Integrated Stereo Amp / Home Built Intel-based HTPC (running LMS) w/BluRay Player / Panasonic Viera TV Squeezebox Duet (Received in living room attached to stereo amp, Controller in bedroom). Squeezebox Boom in Storage (gift from Slim Devices after they came to my home to debug a networking issue). Squeezebox 3 in Bedroom, attached to small "executive" stereo system with bookshelf speakers mounted on wall. Squeezebox Radio in Bedroom, next to bed, used as radio alarm. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ tbessie's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=8521 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=109282 _______________________________________________ Squeezecenter mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter
