OK so in digging deeper I notice that some items are missing from existing playlists as well. So for instance in iTunes a playlist titled Pink Martini has x albums and 109 songs byt when I display that Playlist in LMS it shows 95 songs and is missing an album I added to iTunes few months ago. The songs and the album appear under Artists or Albums or songs.
Another weird thing. For a couple of years my LMS when displayed via MAC OS system preferences always appeared as starting, never started and the web control and advanced settings were always greyed out. I reported it but since my LMS was working in every way other than this it was never fully investigated. After updating to the current beta build of LMS that has seemingly been corrected and it at least is working normally. So all the songs and albums in iTunes are being accessed and displayed by LMS on the web interface and on the squeezebox but there are missing items in Playlists on the LMS and whatever I do to the iTunes playlists is not reflected in LMS.
