I hope I'm not missing something obvious as I have tested this with various players (including chromecast, upnp, and squeezelite players). I have setup fade in and out for songs and that does occur when the songs change, but it would be great to have the playing song fade out when it is paused, and then fade back in when it is restarted (I like to listen rather loud on my headphones, and it is jarring to pause and restart) . Maybe another option on the audio setup tab?
