With 1. are you talking about the LMS control panel (that one starts from the "tray" at lower right of windows home screen? I almost never use this other than to start and stop LMS (I just have LMS webGUI saved as a bookmark on my browse and use this for settings, etc.). I do recall that when I set the LMS control panel to run at windows startup, I went to the underlying program (Squeezetray.exe, inside the Squeezebox folder in "Program Files (x86)" and in the program properties, compatibility tab, I ticked "run this program as an administrator".
