What is the player in your son's room? Remember that unless you copied the LMS prefs from the Windows box across to the Vortexbox then all of the individual player settings would have gone back to default. AFAIK there is no overall amplification option at server level. The 1&0s get sent to the player along with an instruction to amplify them when decoded based on the settings in the Player prefs.
