I've converted one of my m4a+cue files to wav+cue and it plays perfectly using the default filetype settings, via Artists, Albums, and even via the cue file in Music Folders (though it takes longer to find the start point with wav files), so my apologies for my earlier misleading suggestion.
That error message definitely indicates you should check the scanner.log file: search for "Error". (As a matter of routine, I periodically check the scanner.log file after a full scan. I just open it in WordPad and search for "Error") Various people have said that you can't play the cue file from the Music Folder. Perhaps I am mistaken but I think that used to be the case but it was was fixed some time again. I can certainly do it with wav+cue files using LMS 7.9.2.
