I have 7 squeezeboxes organised in two synchronised setups and my server is a Raspberry Pi 3. Most, but not all of my boxes are wired (also the server, of course) and I have no troubles playing synchron from my library or from webradio. I would also strongly recommend to think of the wifi or the router as a problem.
